Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  One died when an early morning fire yesterday gutted a house in Barangay Tungkop, Minglanilla yesterday.

Residents were trying to put off the fire as they attempted to save Jaime Boro, of legal age, who was suffering an illness and trapped inside the house during the fire. But they failed.

Police Officer 2 Nikki Carlos Plarisan, desk officer, told The FREEMAN that owner of the house Orlando Boro, brother of the victim, was also not around at that time.

It was around 7:50 a.m. when smoke came out from the bedroom of the house. Police, however, could not yet determine who owned the room where the fire started as the Minglanilla Fire Station is investigating.

“Basta according sa mga tawo didto sa kwarto nagsugod,” Plarisan said in a phone interview.

Jaime was alone at that time, police said. The fire was raised to first alarm and firemen arrived and controlled the fire within 10 minutes before it was declared fired out at 8:05 a.m.

Firemen found Boro’s body charred beneath the debris of the house which was made of light materials.

Estimated cost of fire was P10,000.  (FREEMAN)
