Ma blames hospital for baby’s death, seeks justice

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - "Atong tan-awon kung nurse ba gyud ang involved ani. And also, if member ba gyud ni sa PNA. I have to emphasize that we are not a regulatory body. We are an association of nurses concerned on the continued education and training of nurses as well as ensuring the welfare of our members," Santos told reporters.

CPMHI lawyer Cornelio Mercado asked Bacalla to formalize her complaint.

"Whatever issues she has, if she wants to believe that people in the hospital displayed negligence, she can express that. If she cannot afford to get a lawyer, she can go to public defenders office where people can help her. Let's give her the chance to put her grievances to the proper venue and we will face it," Mercado told The Freeman.

He declined to comment on the statement of Bacalla who expressed willingness to accept settlement from the hospital after she said that she does not know where to source money from to pay for the debt she incurred for the delivery, treatment and funeral of the baby.

"Here we go again. I will not comment on that," the hospital lawyer said.

Commission on Human Rights-7 lawyer Dante Jadman, who also heads the inter-agency fact-finding committee of the Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of the Children investigating the alleged taping incident of baby Yohannes Badocdoc, said they will extend help to Bacalla should she need their assistance.

Jadman advised Bacalla to be at their office Friday as the CHR-7 personnel have to attend a seminar today until Thursday.

"Na shock sad ko when Suzette (Jabonete of DOH-7) introduced her to me. I listened to her story and honestly I do not know what to tell her," Jadman told reporters.—FPL (FREEMAN)
