Son stabs pa to death

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 59-year-old father was stabbed dead by his son yesterday morning in Barangay Tulay, Minglanilla.

Saturnino Labistre succumbed to multiple stab wounds in different parts of his body. He was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at the Minglanilla District Hospital.

Reyden, 20, was also injured in both legs after he got shot by the responding police officers.

PO2 Juvi Egdamin said the victim was still asleep when Reyden arrived at their house and started attacking his father using a kitchen knife.

After killing his father, the suspect went out of the house and challenged anyone to a fight, prompting the other residents in the area to call for police assistance.

The responding policemen, PO2 George Campomanes and PO1 Ronillo Salas, asked the suspect to surrender. However, Reyden allegedly tried to attack Campomanes, prompting Salas to shoot him in both legs using his 9mm service pistol to neutralize the suspect.

“Aron ma-neutralize gipusil na lang gyud siya kaysa makaamong pa ug lain,” Egdamin said.

Reyden was rushed to Minglanilla District Hospital but was later referred to Vicente Sotto Medical Center in Cebu City for further medical attention.

According to the police, the family was supposed to send Reyden to a rehabilitation center for being a drug dependent but could not do it because of financial problem.

“Ipa-rehab na unta kuno ni nila pero possible walay kwarta wala pa madayon,” Egdamin said.

The police are still waiting for the other members of the family to file a formal complaint against the suspect.—/FPL   (FREEMAN)
