Teacher caught violating waste segregation law
CEBU, Philippines - A Cebu City public school teacher was issued with citation ticket for violation of the waste segregation law.
Angel Flores of Bonbon Elementary School will be slapped with P500 fine otherwise she will face a case in court for violation of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act and City Ordinance 2031.
Grace Luardo, head of the City Environmental Sanitation and Enforcement Team and supervisor of the Barangay Environmental Officers, said a team headed by Analiza Parba inspected the school yesterday to check the teachers’ compliance of the waste segregation policy.
Luardo said the team asked permission from the school principal before going in every classroom to inspect the garbage receptacles.
According to Luardo, Parba reported that Flores did not comply with the provisions of the law.
“Nagsagol lang ang mga basura nga malata ug ang dili malata. Sa ato pa wala niya tudloi ang mga bata nga iyang tinun-an kabahin sa balaod nga kinahanglan nga i-segregate ang mga basura,†Luardo said.
According to Luardo, she was surprised because the school is located in the hinterlands of the city and they are supposed to be lovers of the environment.
Flores has one week to settle her penalty otherwise she will be charged in court.
Other schools that were inspected by the BEOs yesterday include Mabolo Elementary School and Barangay Luz Elementary School.
Luardo said all the teachers from these schools are complying with the provisions of the law.
Luardo said her personnel have been given mission orders to also include private schools in the inspection. She, however, said that permission should be secured first from the school principal. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
