Rama to Citom: Strengthen traffic rules implementation

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has directed the Cebu City Traffic Operations Manager to strengthen the implementation of traffic rules in the city.

He said that to avoid accidents, there should be a strict implementation of traffic policies.

â€œI have already directed CITOM that any left and right turning (vehicles) that will obstruct (traffic) movement should be stopped,” Rama said.

He said drivers should learn to make U-turns instead of usually making left turn to avoid accidents.

“Though taking a U-turn would take a longer route, it would be much safer for the drivers and commuters,” said Citom Executive Director Rafael Christopher Yap.

He said that they will be conducting a meeting Thursday to finalize the signage for the implementation of a new traffic management in the city.

In particular, Rama said he would ask for an update on the traffic problem on M. Velez St. because of an ongoing road widening project.

“(The) M. Velez (problem) has to be solved quickly because it’s been there for too long. If they (contractor) will complain, they have to file a case against me as long as  I will solve that traffic problem,” he said. (FREEMAN)
