After DEPED approval; Naga, Danao divisions to hire more teachers
CEBU, Philippines - The central office of the Department of Education has approved two schools divisions in Cebu to hire locally funded teachers.
The Danao City and Naga City Schools Division are glad of the decision as it would address the problem of shortage of teachers.
DepEd allowed Danao City to hire 30 volunteers or LGU-funded teachers while Naga is allowed to hire 28 teachers.
In a letter signed by Jesus Mateo, DepEd Assistant Secretary for Planning and Development, the additional teachers will be legitimate only until the end of the school year and must be taken off from the existing roster of LGU-funded teachers.
Mateo said, “While this exception is granted, you are enjoined to clearly communicate, verbally and in writing, that their regularization and absorption into the national plantilla are not guaranteed.â€
“As stated in Unnumbered Memorandum dated 20 March 2014, only qualified KVT and LGU-hired teachers as of 2012 may be regularized,†he said further.
The central office has pointed out that to ensure equity of teacher deployment according to the Electronic Basic Education Information System data computed by school and by grade or year level should follow with the following parameters; Kindergarten (one teacher per two session at a 1:25 ratio or a maximum of 35 students per session), Multigrade (a maximum of 30 per class consisting of two grades), Grades one and two (40 to a maximum of 50 as ideal class size), Grades three and four (45 to a maximum of 55 as ideal class size), and Grades five and six or secondary level (45 to a maximum of 55 as ideal class size with subject specialization factor of five teachers is to three classes).
Deped-7 Director Dr. Carmelita Dulangon said Carcar City School division has also requested to hire locally-funded teachers.
Dulangon reminded other schools division to request only if they needed it badly.
“Naa man pod uban nga superintendents nga nakakita nga sakto na, so dili pud palabi-an,†she said, adding that the funds that are supposedly allocated for the locally-funded teachers could be shifted to rehabilitation or construction of new classrooms. — (FREEMAN)
