Arrastre exec says CIP congestion ‘worsening’
CEBU, Philippines - The Oriental Port and Allied Services is calling on importers with overstaying container vans at the Cebu International Port to retrieve them already as they have caused congestion in the area.
OPASCOR manager for operations Jonathan Fernandez, said there are around 6,000 container vans at the CIP, whose storage capacity is only 4,000 to 5,000.
He said there are importers who are using the CIP like a warehouse by not retrieving container vans whose contents they would not use yet. The CIP is only intended for the loading and unloading of container vans and not for storage.
Fernandez also said that some container vans cannot be released because consignees failed to present complete import documents. Bureau of Customs-Cebu District Collector Roberto Almadin have issued an order last month that incomplete documents should not be processed.
There are likewise container vans that were either abandoned or are stuck at the CIP because they are subject for litigation.
CIP has an average arrival of 1,800 to 2,000 container vans a week and the average withdrawal is just 1,500 container vans.
