2 more CIUs in Cebu
CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Social Welfare and Development is set to put up two more Crisis Intervention Units in Cebu which will support the operations of the existing lone center in Cebu City.
According to DSWD, one satellite office will be put up in Carcar City in the south and another one in Danao City.
This is an enhancement of the implementation of the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation or AICS which is part of the DSWD’s protective services for the poor, marginalized and vulnerable individuals.
The AICS was implemented by the DSWD as part of its technical assistance and resource augmentation support to local government units.
The AICS is implemented by the CIU and has satellite offices in Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor through the Social Welfare and Development Team Office or the Provincial Operations Office in each province.
The types of assistance and services of the CIU are transportation, medical, burial, food and non-food, educational, referral services, counseling and rescue operation.
The beneficiaries of AICS are walk-in and referred clients of the CIUs.
Priority shall be given to beneficiaries belonging to indigent families identified under the Listahanan or the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction, to families belonging to the informal sector and other poor, marginalized and vulnerable families.
A client can avail of assistance only once within a three month-period.
The type, kind and amount of financial assistance to be provided to beneficiaries are based on the assessment and recommendation of the DSWD social worker.
Appropriate documentation is needed to support the disbursement of funds based on the Social Case Study Report of the beneficiary.— (FREEMAN)
