Police: 2nd day of classes peaceful

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Provincial Police Office director Noel Gillamac said that the first two days of the opening of classes in the province was smooth and generally peaceful.

Gillamac said there were no reports of crimes related to the opening of classes except for traffic related concerns.

He said that traffic concerns were immediately addressed through coordination with the local government units. According to Gillamac, the LGUs deployed traffic enforcers to man the traffic near the schools.

Gillamac said police personnel were deployed at the different schools in the province as early as 6:00 a.m. to ensure that policemen are already out to assist the students.

â€œActually we directed the concerned personnel to be as early as six (6) a.m. because that is the time nga maabot ang mga estudyante,” he said.

Gillamac said that station commanders were instructed to monitor their personnel. According to him, he does not want personnel to be late and worst nowhere to be found in designated assistance centers.

“Worst naay tarpaulin nga naay police assistance center (sa eskwelahan) unya walay tawo didto,” he said.

Gillamac has also directed the chiefs of police in the municipalities to coordinate with the school principal and ask for a few minutes to brief the students.

“I have directed the COPs to request the principals if we have some police time with the pupils and students to conduct information drive especially those college freshmen nga first time to come to Cebu,” he said.

“Usahay bitaw kanang gikan sa probinsya pag-abot sa city they will end up a victim of crime,” he added.— (FREEMAN)
