PAGASA: Rainy days coming soon
CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration yesterday said that the country is now in the transition towards rainy season.
Although there is no official declaration yet of the end of summer, weather observer Leonardo Samar of PAGASA-Visayas said that the scattered rains that the country is experiencing is an indication that rainy days are coming soon.
Samar said that summer is expected to officially end by the second week of June.
PAGASA's rainy season outlook posted on its website says that the Philippines is transitioning towards the rainy season as manifested by warm and humid condition associated with frequent rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and early evening.
It said that current wind patterns over the West Philippine Sea are now southerly directions and expected to gradually shift into southwest.
"This event signals the beginning of the rainy season over the western part of the country," the statement said.
In consideration of climate model outputs, PAGASA foresees the imminent onset of the rainy season in early June. However, full development of the southwest monsoon season is expected to commence by mid-June associated with moderate to heavy rains.
