5 cops get promoted
CEBU, Philippines - “A rank higher comes with bigger responsibility.â€
This is how five newly-promoted police officers described their feelings after being pinned as superintendents during the oath-taking and donning of ranks at the Police Regional Office-7 yesterday.
New superintendents are Hermano Mallari, Bogo City police chief; Jovito Canlapan, Provincial Operations and Plans Division; Teodulfo Manatad III, Carcar City police chief; Melbert Glade Esguerra, City Public Safety Company chief and Romeo Santander, City Intelligence Branch chief.
Said policemen complied with and qualified the four qualifications of standard for promotion which include eligibility, mandatory training, educational attainment and the number of years or experience in the service.
They were pinned by Senior Superintendent Orlando Ualat, officer-in-charge of the PRO-7.
Ualat said promoting police officers should serve as inspiration to other policemen to pursue and do their task which is to serve and protect the community.
For Mallari, however, he is not giving more importance to his promotion than to his job as police officer.
“Wala man ko naghuna-huna sa rank…trabaho lang and since promoted man meaning qualified ka sa rank,†Mallari said in a phone interview, adding that his superiors saw that he can now be trusted to bigger tasks.
He also assured to do his best to reach the expectations of his superiors.
“Kay gi-promote ka, nakakita sila nga qualified naka ug kaya na nimo ang responsibility so maninguha pud ko nga sa ilang expectations makita nila nga kaya nako,†he said.
For his part, Santander considered his promotion as a step forward to a higher positioning in the police service.
“Maturity is there but more on supervision and hands-on in aiming peace and order nga ma-appreciate sa community,†Santander said in a phone interview.
He said he would not change his work ethics because it is what people see in him.
“Don’t change lang and maintain the work ethics bisan superintendent na,†he said. (FREEMAN)
