Granddaughter of PB member, mayor falls prey to “salisi”

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The granddaughter of Lanao del Norte first District Provincial Board Member Mac Dibaratun and Nunungan Mayor Abdul Malik Manamparan fell victim to the “salisi” modus inside a mall here in Cebu City on Wednesday afternoon.

The victim, a minor, said she and other family members are in Cebu with her grandfather, Board Member Dibaratun, who is attending a seminar.

At a fast food restaurant, the victim and her cousin ordered at the counter and left their bags in a table to make it appear that the table was already taken.

The victim’s cousin reportedly took out her valuables from her bag but the victim left her cellphone and other valuables inside.

When her cousin asked her where her bag is, they noticed that it was not on the table anymore.

She said they tried to look for it and their grandmother, Salma Dibaratun, later asked the establishment to check the CCTV camera which showed a certain Glemar Mier taking the bag.

Mier was arrested later that night after he returned to the same establishment.

The mall’s house detective arrested Mier who later admitted to the crime, said PO2 Reynaldo Labating.

Mier told the police that he gave the victim’s bag to his neighbor and asked her to sell the cellphone.

The item was recovered in a follow-up operation.

Yesterday morning, the victim and her grandmother went to the Theft and Robbery Section and filed a case against the suspect.

Several minutes later, another victim appeared and identified a backpack reportedly stolen from him at the same establishment by the suspect.  (FREEMAN)
