Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  A first attempt to end his own life was interrupted by electrical wires. So 21-year-old Kim Vergara climbed the building once again and jumped for the second time.

Vergara, a biology student died after his second attempt to jump off from the fourth floor of Medillo Building, Sambag I, Cebu City past 6 a.m. yesterday.

On his first attempt, he reportedly jumped off from the fourth floor of the building but was caught in between electric and telephone cables.

So he went up again to the same floor and jumped, this time already ending his life.

Senior Police Officer 1 Ruth Violango, homicide investigator, said that school problems may be the reason why Vergara took his life.

She said that Vergara did not leave a suicide note and there was no indication that he would end his life.

She said that before committing suicide, Vergara visited his friend, Daryll Medillo, who owns the building where he later jumped off from.

Vergara reportedly visits his friend, especially if he encounters problems. Medillo let Vergara stay for the night and was given a room next to his.

The following morning, Vergara took his own life while Medillo was still asleep.

Yuson Jalandoni, a resident living near the building, said that he heard someone shout and saw someone caught by the wires.

Jalandoni said he initially thought that Vergara was a thief and was trying to escape. But he later saw Vergara jump off the building the second time and heard a loud thud.

Vergara’s head and chest were severely injured resulting to his instantaneous death.

Violango added that she will still speak with Vergara’s parents to know what had contributed to his decision to end his life.

Vergara reportedly failed the second semester of school year 2013-2014. (FREEMAN)
