Two men shot dead in separate incidents in Cebu Province
CEBU, Philippines - Two men were shot dead in separate incidents in Cebu recently.
In Barangay Pitalo, San Fernando, a certain Franklin Bartido, 46, was gunned down by two unidentified assailants at 5:30 p.m. last Sunday.
Initial investigation showed that Bartido, a resident of Mainit, Naga City, was driving a motorcycle bound for Carcar City when the suspects riding tandem on a black motorcycle shot him twice, causing him to fall on the pavement.
One of the suspects, who wore a red shirt and whose mouth was covered with a cloth, got off the motorcycle and shot the victim again several times. The assailants then fled and sped off heading south.
The victim was rushed to Carcar District Hospital but he succumbed to eight gunshot wounds he sustained in the different parts of his body.
Police recovered 11 empty shells of a .45 cal. pistol from the crime scene.
They are still investigating the incident to determine the assailants’ motive in killing the victim.
A police report showed that the victim’s wife, Estrelita Bartido, 45, disclosed that her husband has a mistress named Jane, who is a native of Mindanao and currently works as a guest relation officer in Toledo City.
In another incident in Barangay Garian, Bogo City, 30-year-old Jonel Gomez who allegedly came looking for a fight ended up being killed by Arvin Logera, 34.
Based on the investigation, Gomez, reportedly armed with a kitchen knife, went to Logera’s house and challenged the latter’s father, Ruben Logera, to a fight.
The younger Logera, after learning about this, confronted Gomez and in the middle of their argument, shot him once.
The victim, who was hit in the torso, was immediately taken to Cebu Provincial Hospital of Bogo, but soon died.
The suspect surrendered to the police and yielded a .45 cal. pistol, which was believed to have been used in shooting the victim. (FREEMAN)
