6 City Brgys to install CCTV cams
CEBU, Philippines - Six barangays have assured to help the Cebu City Government in strengthening security measures within the city by installing closed-circuit television cameras.
Local government units of barangays Ermita, Cogon Ramos, Zapatera, Labangon, Mabolo and Apas have guaranteed to set up CCTV cameras in their respective areas and the city government, through the City Command Center, will assist the barangays in terms of installing and monitoring the cameras, said Councilor Dave Tumulak, chairperson of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
“The barangays will supplement or augment the existing CCTV cameras in the city. Ato lang sila tabangan asa kini i-install and monitoring side,†Tumalak said.
The CCDRRMC is encouraging all establishments like malls, banks, stores and barangays to install CCTV cameras, while the C3, the city government’s pilot response team, will provide manpower for monitoring.
Last week, Tumulak, met with officials of the barangays to discuss the importance of the CCTV cameras, particularly on the important role it plays in solving crimes, as well as securing the general welfare of the public.
Further, Tumulak is set to draft a measure acquiring additional 50 CCTV cameras worth P30 million to add up to last year’s 30 cameras which amounted to P15 million. Out of the 30 CCTV cameras purchased, 15 were installed in different major intersections from Barangay Mambaling to Barangay Banilad.
Barangays Labangon and Mabolo have already purchased CCTV cameras, but are yet to be installed.
The necessity of installing CCTV camera is in accordance with “CCTV Ordinance of Cebu City,†requiring all business establishments and residential subdivisions and condominiums operating in Cebu City, including banks, money changers, lending institutions, pawnshops, gas stations, internet shops, private schools, privately-owned wet and dry markets, hotels, motels, inns, travel agencies, coffee shops, junk shops, terminals, and retail establishments with an annual gross sales of not less than P5 million, to install cameras.
The scope of the ordinance also includes shopping malls, privately-owned paid parking lots, entrance/exit gates of residential subdivisions and condominiums, and private hospitals. (FREEMAN)
