Sinulog workers get cash reward

Kristine B. Quintas - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - At least 1,495 Cebu City Hall employees will receive P2,000  for helping in the preparation of the Devotee City and the cleanup operation after the Sinulog grand parade last January.

The City Council approved on Wednesday the P2,990,000 budget charged against the City Sponsored Activities.

The 1,495 personnel include loaders, drivers, dispatchers, heavy equipment operators, street cleaners, garbage collectors, traffic aides and enforcers, Prevention Restoration Order Beautification and Enhancement personnel, and parks and playground commission personnel who were able to get rid of 170 tons of trash and garbage right after the celebration.

The personnel were earlier praised by media and the public for their exemplary performance.

The City Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE) Committee headed by Jose Maria Eugenio Elizalde has recommended  the giving of the monetary incentive to the “deserving” employees.

Councilor Sisinio Andales, who authored the giving of incentives to City Hall employees, said “it is fitting to acknowledge the  contribution of Cebu  City government employees who executed their assigned work well during and after the Sinulog 2014.”

The PRAISE has been tasked  to search, screen and reward deserving employees to motivate them to improve the quality of their performance and instill excellence in public service.

“The cultural, historical and tourism endeavor of the City Government  is one of the reasons in preparation for the celebration of the feast of Sto Niño and the Sinulog Mardigras which were participated by 3.5 million people,” Elizalde said. —/GMR (FREEMAN)
