Fire victim hurt in wall collapse
CEBU, Philippines - A fire victim in Barangay Lorega-San Miguel yesterday got injured after a concrete wall collapsed on him while he was trying to salvage some scrap metals from the ruins of the huge fire last week.
Ardel Bauyaban, 18, suffered from a fractured leg and is now confined at the Vicente Sotto memorial Medical Center.
Bauyaban was sifting through the rubbles as the city government’s equipment demolished of what was left of the fire to facilitate reblocking.
However, a concrete wall collapsed on Bauyaban causing fracture on his right knee.
Police Officer 1 Reufol Adalim said that the operator of the heavy equipment, Nestor Amanuanse, fled after the incident.
The city government started clearing the debris at the fire scene in Barangay Lorega- San Miguel to facilitate the reblocking. The reblocking was ordered by Mayor Michael Rama to ensure that emergency vehicles have easy access in future emergencies like fire.
One of the reasons blamed for the huge fire in Lorega was the narrow access that makes it difficult for firefighters to penetrate. (FREEMAN)
