AIDS kills man
CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Health has confirmed report of a person in Cebu who died of a full-blown Acquired Immuno deficiency Syndromes.
DOH-7 Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) chief, Dr. Renan Cimafranca, said the patient died at the HIV/AIDS treatment facility at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City in January this year.
Considering the sensitivity of the case, Cimafranca refused to divulge the name of the victim and the province where the victim came from.
But Cimafranca clarified that the AIDS victim was not from Cebu or from Central Visayas and he just treated at VSMMC.
RESU recorded each month for the past three month of new case of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
The known causes of the disease’s spread include sharing of syringe by drug users and unprotected sex.
The DOH-7 has been campaigning for the use of condom to avoid acquiring sexually transmitted diseases. —/GMR (FREEMAN)
