Raps filed vs suspect in lending collector’s slay

CEBU, Philippines - Finding probable cause, the Liloan Prosecutor’s Office has indicted an owner of motorcycle spare parts and vulcanizing shops before the court for allegedly killing a lending collector.

State prosecutor Al Rey Ouano held accused Julian Cervantes, 53, of Liloan, Cebu for trial after he waived his right to undergo preliminary investigation to answer the allegations filed against him.

PO1 Jose Aron Ortega of Liloan Police Station told The FREEMAN Cervantes during inquest proceeding manifested before Ouano not to file counter-affidavit for complaints of murder and robbery. Instead, he told to face the charges in court.

Cervantes was arrested by the authorities on Mar. 11 in his store at Sitio Capulay, Barangay Tayud, Liloan for allegedly killing June Quijano, an employee of Fund Line Lending Company.

Quijano was found dead in Sitio Simborio, Barangay Tayud, Liloan Monday night.

Based on report, while the team of PO3 Walter Quirol was conducting a roving, they saw an abandoned motorcycle that has a cargo on its back.

Upon verification, they found a dead body wrapped inside a roof insulator and tied to a rope.

The victim was last seen in Jugan, Consolacion and in Liloan. The victim suffered severe head injuries and his personal belongings and daily collections were reportedly missing.

Police chief Insp. Jose Liddawa of  Liloan Police Station earlier said investigation revealed that the establishment of Cervantes was the last establishment the victim went.

He added Quijano possibly demanded from Cervantes of his loan but the latter might have not paid. —/JMD (FREEMAN)
