CEBU, Philippines - Youth leaders in Central Visayas are welcomed by authorities to take part and represent the region in the National Youth Parliament.

NYP, also referred to as Parliament of Youth Leaders, is both organized by National Youth Commission and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The national gathering, now on its 10th year, is set to be held May 15-18 in Metro Manila.

NYP is open to Filipino citizen, must be 15-30 years old on the day of the Parliament, must not have been a previous NYP delegate and must be willing to shoulder his/her travelling expenses.

Interested applicants may download the guidelines and form via the official website of  NYP at http://www.nyc.gov.ph/ and its official Facebook page – www.facebook.com/10thNYP.

Deadline of application is on March 21, 2014.

The youth assembly will have simulated legislative process where participants get to present, discuss, and propose resolutions to certain issues concerning the youth sector.

A total of 200 youth leaders from all over the country will experience plenary debates and discussions aimed at coming up with policy recommendations that are later on endorsed and lobbied to concerned national government branches or agencies.

During the 9th NYP held in Naga City, Camarines Sur in 2012, 25 resolutions were adopted and approved by the delegates.

Some of these resolutions eventually became the foundation of some NYC advocacies like the Students’ Rights and Welfare Bill and the Sangguniang Kabataan or SK Reform Bill. — (FREEMAN)
