More trainings for erring drivers from CITOM

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council has requested the City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM) to conduct trainings on traffic laws for erring drivers as one way to ease traffic congestion, particularly in uptown areas.

A resolution authored by city councilor Alvin Dizon stated that there is a need to further educate drivers on road safety.

“We encourage the CITOM to conduct continuing education among erring drivers to instill on them the virtue of obedience to traffic laws and on proper road use not only for the safety of other drivers and the commuters but also of their own lives,” he said.

Dizon said that the measure would help in apprehending “undisciplined” drivers of taxis, Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) and private vehicles, who blatantly violate traffic regulations further worsening the traffic congestion in the city.

He pointed out that erring drivers may put the lives of the safety-conscious and law-abiding drivers and innocent commuters at risk.

Also, the CITOM is tasked to constantly monitor the traffic flow in the flyover near the Banilad Town Center, to determine the necessity to permanently deploy traffic officers along the mouth of the said flyover.

â€œThere is an urgency to address this concern to ease, no matter how minimal, the traffic congestion along this area and to ensure safety of drivers and the riding public,” he added.

The resolution was approved last Wednesday in the council’s regular session.

The council also set an executive session on April 12 to tackle the results of the recent conducted “traffic situation analysis” of Engr. Pedro Adonis Compendio, as to the plan of building a 22-storey Mix-Use Condominium located along Archbishop Reyes Avenue.  (FREEMAN)
