Lending collector dies in road mishap

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A lending collector died Tuesday afternoon after he was hit by a bus while driving his motorcycle along the national highway in Barangay Liloan, Santander.

Gilbert Bugay, 23, of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental suffered severe injuries when his motorcycle reportedly crashed into a Ceres bus he was tailing from Samboan town.

The bus, driven by Malbin Romano, 47, of Tungkil, Minglanilla, was about to turn left at an intersection when Bugay lost control of his motorcycle. Police investigators believe that the victim may not have noticed the bus was turning left.

SPO4 Isagani Tinapay, traffic investigator, said that the victim was travelling at a high speed, making it difficult for him to maneuver.

â€œNalabay gyud siya tungod sa kakusog,” Tinapay said.

The bus driver surrendered and is now under police custody in Santander. He will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide. — (FREEMAN)
