Man says neighbor’s wife stole P10, is stabbed dead
CEBU, Philippines - For accusing the wife of his drinking buddy of stealing P10, a multicab driver was knifed to death in Barangay Calajo-an, Minglanilla town past 3 p.m. Saturday.
Nestor Baguio, 58, who suffered a stab wound in the chest, did not make it alive to the Minglanilla District Hospital after Serafin Sumampong, 53, stabbed him in the chest.
Though fatally wounded, Baguio managed to retaliate and also stab Sumampong in the chest. Sumampong was also brought to the Minglanilla District Hospital but was later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for further treatment.
The police said that both men were in the middling of a drinking session with neighbors when Baguio accused Sumampong's wife of stealing P10.
"Gipasanginlan kuno nga nanguha ug P10 pero wala na namo makuha kung asa nanguha og si kinsa gikuhaan (The victim accused the suspect's wife of stealing P10 but we were not yet able determine when and from whom)," SPO1 Leoven Sibomit told The FREEMAN.
An argument ensued and resulted to a fistfight. Their companions, however, managed to pacify the two, with Sumampong opting to leave for home.
Sumampong, though, returned minutes after with a knife and attacked Baguio.
"Nakadagan pa si Baguio una siya naabtan unya nadunggaban (Baguio was able to run but Sumampong caught up with him and stabbed him)," Sibomit said.
Baguio was able to take a screw driver he had with him and struck Sumampong with it also in the chest.
"Dili man ingon grabe ang iyang igo kay bukog man (Sumampong's wound was not serious as the screwdriver only hit a rib)," the investigator said.
Responding policemen immediately arrested Sumampong but failed to find the knife at the scene.
The police are now preparing a criminal complaint against Sumampong, who would be charged before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor's Office today. (FREEMAN)
