DENR workers unpaid since January

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - More than 40 contractual employees of the Bureau of Lands of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) -7 have complained about not being paid of their salaries.

The unpaid salaries cover the month of January up to the present.

They claimed that the long process in the renewal of their contract was being used by the agency as the reason of the non-payment of their salaries.

Some employees have been working in the agency for the past 15 years but only this time they encountered delay in the payment of the salaries.

The bureau’s Regional Technical Director, Wilfredo Lee, said the agency has enough funds to pay the salaries.

The employees are working under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.

Lee said the salaries are delayed due to some problems in the encashment of checks.

He assured that the workers will be paid by next week. — Chester Abadilla of Banat News/GMR
