NSO reminds parents anew to register newborn children
CEBU, Philippines - As the Philippine Statistics Authority (formerly National Statistics Office) celebrates the Civil Registration Month this February, the office has emphasized the importance of securing the registration of a newborn child and the provision of the correct information by those present during the birth.
Ariel Florendo, NSO-7 regional director said that ensuring the proper and correct registration is the obligation of the parents, records clerk, midwives and traditional "hilot or mananabang" who are there when the child is born.
"So that it will not create problems to the child in the near future using his/her birth certificate to any personal transaction," Florendo stressed.
The annual celebration of the Civil Registration Month every February aims to highlight the significance of civil registration of everyone. This is in line with Executive Order 326 signed by the late President Corazon Aquino designating February of each year as the Civil Registration Month.
With the theme, "Ikaw at Ako Tungo sa Wastong Pagrerehistro,"NSO-7 information officer Noel Rafols said in a press statement that various activities are lined-up for the whole month, including free mobile registration, information dissemination and more.
In partnership with the Local Civil Registrars, a series of seminars and trainings have also been scheduled in various venues in the local government units to discuss laws and procedures on civil registration as well as updates and special laws.
Rafols added that there are also scheduled mass weddings sponsored by the LGUs and by other national government agencies and non-government organizations, considering that the month of February is also the "Love Month." (FREEMAN)
