Court allows Jalosjos to stay at the hospital

Mylen P. Manto - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - After his recent surrender to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-7, former Dapitan City Mayor Dominador Jalosjos, Jr. was allowed to continue his stay at the hospital due to his ailing health condition.

Executive Judge Soliver Peras of the Regional Trial Court Branch 13 yesterday allowed Jalosjos to stay at the Cebu Doctor's University Hospital until he fully recovers from an infection.

Jalosjos, 71 years old, was convicted for robbery charges in 1969 and was sentenced to serve jail for one year and six months. He was placed under probation though but failed to serve its terms and conditions thus the issuance of the warrant of arrest which Jalosjos allegedly did not know of for the past 45 years.

The camp of Jalosjos through his lawyer Inocencio dela Cerna presented Dr. Peter Mancao, the attending physician of the accused.

Dela Cerna manifested before the court that there is no "Very Important Person" (VIP) treatment on the part of his client in the hospital. In fact, he said the foot of his client is shackled.

Mancao said, based on the history of Jalosjos, the latter underwent triple bypass surgery in St. Luke's Hospital in Taguig City in 2011. The operation was successful but he developed a wound infection after the surgery.

"Now we are trying to control that infection and there will be a possible operation," he said. However, he added that there is no definite date yet on when the operation would be done.

If they will not conduct an operation, Mancao said the open wound infection will lead to the infection of the heart.

With the situation of his patient, he said he does not advise to place Jaloslos inside the city Jail.

Mancao said Jalosjos was placed in a regular room converted into an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

With the foregoing, Peras ordered for a weekly report on the status of the patient. He also directed the City Jail Warden to submit a manifestation on whether the cuffs on Jalosjos' feet can be removed without jeopardizing security. The police could not put on the cuffs on Jalosjos' hands due to attached dextrose. — (FREEMAN)
