CEBU, Philippines - A 52-year-old woman succumbed to third degree and second degree burns in her body after a fire hit her house in Barangay Ocoy, Sta. Fe town last Thursday evening.
Gloria Ilustrisimo, single, was already sleeping when a fire broke at 9:30 p.m. She was rushed to Bantayan District Hospital because of severe burns in her upper body but expired few hours later.
Initial investigation shows that the victim lighted a mosquito coil before going to bed and placed it near the wall on top of her bed. Fire investigators believe that the mosquito coil may have started the fire.
Meanwhile, an early morning fire yesterday gutted one of the buildings inside the Boy Scouts of the Philippines camp in Barangay Lahug.
The Cebu City fire department received the alarm at 5:55 a.m. and has declared under control at 6:12 a.m. Investigators estimated the damage at P100,000.
