Brazilian arrested with drugs, guns

CEBU, Philippines - An armed Brazilian was arrested by the Danao City police past 3 p.m. last Monday afternoon after he was found with two guns, ammunition and drugs.

Delcon Tamayose, 46, was flagged down by local police after a concerned citizen called them about an armed person in Dry Dock, Barangay Dungo-an, Danao City.

PO3 Phil Restauro, together with four other policemen, came upon Tamayose when he was riding a Sunriser motorcycle with license plate numbers 7176 XV heading towards Dry Dock compound.

When he was frisked, police were able to recover a .22 cal. Black Widow Magnum revolver with five live rounds. He was also found with three rifle grenades and a semi-automatic rifle with ten rounds.

Police also recovered from the suspect two ampoules of nubain, five syringes, a shabu sachet, an expired passport, four rubber stamps, a brown bag and two IDs, one of them a fake Professional Regulations Commission ID.

Cebu Provincial Police Office director Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac said in a press conference that Tamayose is an overstaying alien who first came to the Philippines on Mar. 4, 2011.

Gillamac said that Tamayose's entry point was in Puerto Gallera in Mindoro and then stayed in Danao with his live-in partner.

He said he is coordinating with the Bureau of Immigration to check Tamayose's background and determine if he belongs to any organized robbery group.

When questioned by the media, Tamayose denied that he is a member of any robbery group. He admitted that the nubain, shabu and the revolver was his, but denied owning the semi-automatic assault rifle and the rifle grenades.

Gillamac also said that he will coordinate with the Maritime Police and Bureau of Customs to check foreign vessels for the possibility of gun and drug smuggling.

"We will coordinate with the Philippine Coast or the PNP Maritime Group to check kanang mga modunggo ang mga foreign vessels, we do not know if they are bringing drugs or firearms," he said.

Tamayose said he planned to use the rubber stamps on his passport to make it appear his stay has been extended. He further claimed he is engaged in buying and selling yachts and is paid yearly.

"Yeah that's right, I get paid once every year and when my yacht is done I can go and sell it," he said.

Tamayose will face charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or The Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition, RA 9516 or the Explosives Law and RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.  —/BRP (FREEMAN)
