CEBU, Philippines - Tent city refugees will be temporarily transferred to a nearby warehouse of the city government due to the threat of flashflood in the area following the heavy downpour which the local weather monitoring office said, may last the entire week.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama ordered to move the evacuees to the warehouse in front of the tent city upon learning about the flooding in the area.

â€œPinaka-importante naay matulogan ang mga tawo. Total ma-accommodate man silang tanan sa warehouse,” Rama said.

The mayor has emphasized the importance of a proper drainage in the area now that the rainy season has come.

South Road Properties (SRP) Management Chief Roberto Varquez however said not all areas in the tent city are flooded. Varquez said that only those who are occupying the flooded portion will be temporarily relocated.

Varquez said they have already started working on the drainage since last week.

“Nagsugod naman gyud mi last week but nag ulan-ulan naman dayon so wa mahuman,”  Varquez said. (FREEMAN)
