Man drowns in Badian

CEBU, Philippines - An 18-year-old man drowned while swimming in the seawaters off Barangay Malhiao, Badian town near midday Friday.

SPO1 Dionfe Español, leader of the team that responded to the area, said the victim, Jeffrey Teseo, and his two brothers, Noel and Anthony, were gathering shells and decided to take a swim.

“Ang manghod gyud (Anthony) maoy ni-una ug kaligo unya nisunod ra ning duha (Noel Jeffrey) ug pangaligo (It was the younger brother, Jeffrey, who went to the water first and his brothers followed),” Español said.

While swimming, the water reportedly rose fast and Noel and Anthony immediately swam to a boat docked nearby. Jeffrey, who reportedly did not know how to swim, was not too fortunate and drowned subsequently.

Noel and Anthony immediately sought the help of residents nearby who helped look for Jeffrey. They found him hours later but he was declared dead when brought to the hospital.  (FREEMAN)
