CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has reminded the Cebuanos to live out the values of patriotism, nationalism and heroism as the nation commemorated the 117th death anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal yesterday.

Rama is hoping that Cebuanos will always remember the acts of the national hero.

“Let us all bring new things for tomorrow’s glory,” he said.

In the event, the 12 candidates for Miss Cebu 2014 were present to give a background on the life story of Rizal.

“ It is important to honor and remember Rizal. In that way, we may preserve history. We should remember that we are Filipinos,” said Ayn Ilya Ingking, one of the Miss Cebu 2014 candidates.

Bobby Inoferio, Cebu chapter commander of the Order of the Knights of Rizal has considered the youth as the pillars of tomorrow.

“ The virtues, values and ideas of Rizal should be cemented in the mind of the Filipino people,” he said.

Inoferio added that the people must emulate the trainings, attitudes and all the values from the Lord down to the great heroes of the country.

Meanwhile, when he was asked on his reaction on making Andres Bonifacio as the national hero, Inoferio said Rizal and Bonifacio were great people but Rizal was a peacemaker unlike Bonifacio who wanted war.

“If all of us will be fighting each other, what good it should make. We believe in his (Bonifacio) courage but nagpabilin ba ang mithi,” Inferio said.

“We serve and die for the country for the glory of God for peace,” he further said.  (FREEMAN)
