Inmates' kin allowed overnight stay in jail
CEBU, Philippines - Nothing hindered inmates at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center from peacefully celebrating Christmas with their loved ones.
"Gahapon mi-text man ang jail consultant, maayo man daw ang dagan. Nalipay ang mga detainees nga gibisita sila," said Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III.
Davide granted the request of the detainees to have their families and relatives stay with them overnight from December 24 until the early morning of December 25.
He is looking at the possibility of granting another request for the New Year, although he still waiting for a written request.
"We believe nga sila are entitled to their happiness man pud," he said.
Families and relatives were asked to present their identification cards upon entering the area.
CPDRC is known for the world-renowned dancing inmates. The inmates there also started making lanterns earlier December which they sell as part of their fundraising activity. — (FREEMAN)
