Holiday accidents kill councilor, two others
CEBU, Philippines - Separate vehicular accidents during holidays have claimed three lives.
Barangay councilman Ireneo Ray Tapales, 45, of Poblacion East, Moalboal, Cebu, died as the motorcycle he was driving accidentally slipped and slammed to the pavement while travelling from the town proper to Barangay Saavedra of the said municipality on December 23 at around 10:40 p.m.
The victim was brought to Cebu Doctors Hospital but the attending physician pronounced him dead on arrival.
Emma Sequillo, 58 was also pronounced dead by the attending physician of Juan Dosado Memorial District Hospital in Sogod, Cebu, after the tricycle she was riding lost control and bumped into a concrete fence.
The tricycle was driven by the victim's son, Eduardo Sequillo, 22, when the accident happened on December 24 at around 1:05 p.m.
The accident happened along the national highway of Barangay Panalipan, Catmon, Cebu.
Others injured are Josephine Armecin, 21, driver's live-in partner; Edijones, one-year old, driver's son; Maria Aiza Mabajo, 24; Jhungie Mabajo, 23; and Charl Mabajo, one-year old.
Rebicca Ortizano, 78, a resident of Barangay Olivo, Tabuelan, Cebu, was also pronounced dead on arrival after he was accidentally hit by a tricycle when she crossed the national road on December 25 at around 4:05 p.m.
The driver, Elmer Malinao, 49, a resident of Barangay Putat, Tuburan, Cebu was currently detained at the Tabuelan Police Station.— (FREEMAN)
