Mega Cebu ambassadors chosen

CEBU, Philippines - The representatives from Liloan town and Cebu City were chosen as youth ambassadors of Mega Cebu.

John Kevin Hernandez of Liloan and Jamie Herrell of Cebu City were chosen Monday at a ceremony at Ayala Center Cebu, beating representatives from 11 other local government units. They each received sash, a Mega Cebu trophy, a crown and a cash prize of P50,000.

The first runners up were Dean Mark Flores of Cebu City and Jedidaih del Mar of Lilo-an; the second runners up were Jonathan Maxim Po of Danao City and Crystal Star Aberasturi of Mandaue City; the third runners up were Cliffton Tejam and Ms. Marjhenia Cassell Arquillano, both of Consolacion; and the fourth runners up were Angelo Marchio Yves of Mandaue City and Jassenie Mangaron of Danao City.

The runners up received cash prizes of P30,000; P25,000; P20,000 and P15,000, respectively.

The first runners up will work with the project’s Committee on Integrated Development, the second runners up will work with the Committee on HR Assets and Partnership, the third runners up will work with the Committee on Environment and Public safety, and the fourth runners up will work with the Committee on ICT and Knowledge Management.

There are 13 LGUs that are part of the Mega Cebu project, including Metro Cebu cities Carcar, Cebu, Danao, Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Naga, Talisay, and the municipalities of Compostela, Consolacion, Cordova, Liloan, Minglanilla, and San Fernando.

The winners were judged not only on the basis of “beauty and brains, but also the heart of service to Metro Cebu.”

Prior to Monday’s coronation event, the candidates underwent three months of judging based on their projects that promote innovation, creativity and competitiveness. The projects also embodied the core values of the Mega Cebu project: inclusive, equitable and livable, interconnected and compact; green; and integrated, coordinated, and participative.

The project comprised 95 percent of the representatives’ overall score while the remaining five percent was determined during the coronation event based on the representatives’ stage presence, confidence, and poise.

Special awards were also given: 

1)  Most Vibrant Personality – Diza Mae Gomez, Compostela and Jonathan Maxim Po, Danao City

2) Most Promising Candidate – Micha Ann Wamar, Minganilla

3) Most Wholesome award – Prairie Dawn Castillo, Talisay City and Cliffton Tejam, Consolacion

4) Best in Broadcasting Training – Jamie Herrell, Cebu City

5) Rotarians’ Choice – Crystal Star Aberasturi, Mandaue City and Dean Mark Flores, Cebu City

6) Toastmasters’ Choice – John Kevin Hernandez, Liloan and Jamie Herrell, Cebu City

7) Best in Essay-writing – Crystal Star Aberasturi, Mandaue City

8) Fabcomm’s Choice award– Jamie Herrell, Cebu City and John Kevin Hernandez, Liloan

9) Making Waves Award – Liloan Mega Club and they received P20,000 intended for feeding program in their club

10) Best Video award – Municipality of Liloan

In an interview after the coronation, Herrell said her main responsibility is “to promote not only Cebu City, but also Cebu province.”

Hernandez, for his part, said he will do his best to help implement the projects of Mega Cebu.  (FREEMAN)
