One dead, three others injured in city violence

CEBU, Philippines - A furniture maker was stabbed to death in Barangay Babag Dos shortly before noon on Saturday.

Danilo Jacaban, 44, was stabbed by a certain “Lito” who was reportedly hired by the victim's former lover to demolish his house.

As per Homicide Section investigation, the victim and the suspect were seen arguing prior to the incident, said the victim's live in partner Rubelita Dayanan.

The suspect left but later returned and was already accompanied by Ermita Sabal, the victims ex-girlfriend.

Sabal and Jacaban figured in a heated verbal tussle and it was at this juncture that the suspect, who was armed with a bladed weapon, repeatedly stabbed the victim.

Jacaban was rushed to the Cebu Doctors Hospital but succumbed to multiple stab wounds on his body, while the suspect fled.

Investigation further showed that Sabal hired the suspect to demolish Jacaban's house, which she allegedly owns.

Meanwhile, a policeman and a barangay tanod were injured yesterday morning after they were hacked by an alleged mentally-deranged man in Barangay Sudlon Dos.

Police identified the victims as Senior Police Officer 1 Protacio Meredores of the Cebu City Public Safety Company and Fiedel Dapar, a barangay tanod. The suspect was Alcher Albores, 34.

The victims, along with other law enforcers, responded in sitio Balao at 7:30 in the morning as Albores, who allegedly suffered from a mental problem, went chasing a neighbor while armed with a bolo.

Dapar reportedly approached Albores first, but the latter hacked him with the bolo, hitting him on his shoulder and hand.

SPO1 Meredores, after seeing this, hit the suspect with a baton in order to restrain him.

However, the suspect was still able to hack the policeman and hit his hand and waist.

The policeman managed to pull out his service firearm, a caliber 9mm pistol, and shot at the suspect's foot to neutralize him.

SPO1 Meredores was rushed to the Regional Heath Services 7 while Dapar and Albores was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

Police said they will assess the mental condition of the suspect before filing any charges against him.  (FREEMAN)
