NBI-7 to send escapee back to Tacloban jail
CEBU, Philippines - The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-7 is set to turn-over today to Tacloban City Jail one of the inmates who escaped at the height of super typhoon Yolanda.
NBI supervising agent, Greg Algoso, said that Anthony Arillas, 30, who is facing a murder case in Leyte voluntarily surrendered to them.
“When I asked him for his reason, he said he has no intention to escape but because the city jail was washed out and he has nothing to eat, he took the C-130 going to Cebu,†Algoso said.
Arillas already spent seven years in jail. The trial of the murder case is still ongoing.
Algoso said Arillas met in Minglanilla, Cebu his parents who then reported to authorities.
Arillas is detained at the NBI stockade.
Algoso likewise appealed to other inmates of Tacloban City Jail who took the C-130 plane or the naval ship going to Cebu that the NBI welcomes them they want to surrender.
He said the NBI personnel will personally turn over the inmates to Tacloban City Jail for security purposes.
Algoso said that NBI-7 Regional Director Antonio Pagatpat will accompany them to send Arillas to Tacloban City.
Authorities have also arrested some escapees from Tacloban.
Miriam Garcia Desacada , who was charged for human trafficking, was arrested on November 19, 2013 by a Carbon police in Cebu City.
Jeizen Rey Udtujan, a prison guard of Leyte Provincial Jail, said his wife spotted a woman look-alike of one of their inmates at a department store in Cebu City which turned to be Desacada.
Upon seeing Desacada leaving the store, Udtujan then coordinated with the security guards and a traffic enforcer, who then called for police assistance.
Udtujan and his family evacuated in Cebu and stayed at their relative in Talisay City after super typhoon Yolanda devastated their place.
Udtujan added that Desacada is one of at least 500 prisoners in Leyte Provincial Jail who were allowed to leave their cells during the height of the typhoon. (FREEMAN)
