CFI Coop sends8,000 relief packs to Northern Cebu

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu CFI community cooperative has extended relief assistance to typhoon hit areas in northern Cebu and in Leyte province.

CFI Director Atty. Lito Astillero said they coursed the relief goods through the mayors of Tabogon, Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, Santa Fe, Madridejos, and Bantayan towns and the Bogo City, regardless of political affiliations.

Each LGU received 1,000 packs of goods – each pack containing two kilos of rice, three cans of sardines, and three packs of instant noodles. Coop officials were the ones who distributed the goods.

Each of the cities of Ormoc and Tacloban also received 5,000 packs of relief goods, Astillero said. The cooperative hired a small boat to ferry the goods to Ormoc and Tacloban.

CFI founding chairperson, retired judge Esperanza Garcia, emphasized that the relief operation is part of the cooperative’s corporate social responsibility. The cooperative also sent assistance to Bohol for those affected by the magnitude 7.2 earthquake last October 15.

Report of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office shows that there are 160,521 displaced families due to typhoon in the entire Province of Cebu.

Bantayan has the most number of  displaced families with 22,687 followed by Daanbantayan with 20,426 as November 21, 2013.

Bogo City has the most number of  damaged houses with 18,297 followed by Daanbantayan with 18,297. —/JMO (FREEMAN)
