No bail recommended cop stays in jail

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office has recommended no bail against PO3 Ruben Perater of Waterfront Police Station who was charged for illegal possession of drugs before the court.

Perater also faced separate charge for illegal possession of firearm along with his companions, Med John Bernabe and Luis Gerona.

State Prosecutor Alex Gabud recommended each accused the amount of P60,000 bail for their temporary liberty for illegal possession of firearms.

During the inquest proceeding, Perater and his companions waived their right to undergo preliminary investigation filed against them, instead they manifested to face the charges in court.

Perater and his two companions were arrested by the Cebu City police last Sunday midnight in an apartment in Sitio Mahayahay, Barangay Calamba, Cebu City.  Reports of indiscriminate firing in Barangay Calamba led the police to arrest Perater.

During the arrest, Police Chief Insp. Romeo Santander said they also recovered 18.15 grams of shabu from the possession of Perater.

Under the law, the penalty of life imprisonment to death and a fine ranging from P500,000 to P10 million shall be imposed if found guilty of illegal possession of drugs.

Perater in an earlier interview admitted to The FREEMAN firing his gun to scare the people in the apartment who prevented him from installing lights.

He said he just wanted to install lights in the apartment he bought from a certain Junjun Baldesamo to have the power restored after it was cut off. He added that he bought the apartment in the amount of P750,000.  (FREEMAN)
