Two brods shot dead

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Assailants gunned down two brothers who were having a drinking session in Sitio La Prueba, Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City Sunday evening.

Jaymar Ibona, 24, and his younger brother Johnlee died after suffering gunshot wounds in different parts of their bodies.

Neighbors rushed the victims to Miller Hospital but Johnlee, who had gunshot wounds in the back, right shoulder, and chest, was declared dead on arrival.

Jaymar succumbed to a gunshot wound in the face a few minutes after arriving at the hospital.

SPO4 Rey Cuyos, Cebu City Police Office homicide investigator, said the victims were drinking liquor with neighbors when two men arrived on foot.

Cuyos said the gunmen wore black and had their faces covered similar to members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT).

“Nagtaptap og itom unya (They wore black masks and) shorts nga itom kanang mura’g (like that of a) SWAT og porma kuno (member in uniform),” Cuyos told The FREEMAN, in a phone interview.

PO3 Nilo Aventurado, case investigator, said the assailants and the victims might have held grudges against each other that resulted to the killing.

“Ang usa niingon man ‘mao ni, mao ni’ sa wala pa sila pamusila (One of the gunmen said ‘these are them’ twice before they started firing),” Aventurado said, quoting witnesses.

The police recovered one empty cartridge of a .45 pistol at the crime scene that they suspect was fired from one of the firearms used by the assailants.

Investigators have yet to speak with the family of the victims to determine possible motives for the attack and identify those who possibly held a grudge against the brothers.

They would also trace past activities of the victims to see if they were involved in any form of illegal activities.  (FREEMAN)
