VSMMC not accepting for 10 days women who are about to give birth

PR - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Pregnant women scheduled to deliver on October 17 to 26 are asked to steer clear of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC).

Dr. Gerardo M. Aquino Jr., VSMMC chief, said the Infection and Control Committee of the hospital is doing its annual routine preventive maintenance on those dates they could not serve those giving birth.

He said that cleaning, along with the time it takes for post culture procedure, takes 10 days that the delivery room, labor room and obstetrics-gynecology (ob-gyne)  wards I and II, as well as the neonatal Intensive Care Unit, would be not be available within that period.

“In this connection, the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center will not be accepting obstetrics cases for the said duration,” Aquino said, in a press statement.

He also said that as early as Oct. 14, non-emergency cases would no longer be accepted to give time for the hospitals social workers to discharge the remaining patients.

“We will start admitting emergency cases only and direct to (the) deliver room,” Aquino said.

Patients coming from the southern part of Cebu are directed to the St. Anthony Mother & Child Hospital located at the corner of Tagunol and Cabreros Sts. in Barangay Basak-San Nicolas, Cebu City; and to the Talisay City District Hospital.

Those from the northern towns and cities of Cebu are advised to go to Eversley Child Sanitarium & General Hospital in Mandaue City.

The Cebu City Medical Center would also accept patients from Cebu province, but only when they could no longer be accommodated in any of those hospitals mentioned.

“Please bear with us on this slight inconvenience.  This is to provide the public a safe and clean hospital environment,” Aquino said. — /RHM (FREEMAN)
