Palma plans to attend canonization of popes
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma plans to attend the canonization of Blessed Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII on April 27 next year.
“Yes, I have plans of coming for the canonization. Before that, I will be going to Rome often but I will really look for the possibility of attending the canonization,†Palma told The FREEMAN in a phone interview yesterday.
Palma said he learned of John Paul’s canonization from a news report in The FREEMAN.
He said he hopes that April 27 would be the final date but they have yet to receive the official statement from the Vatican.
“We have been waiting for it. Pope John Paul II’s canonization is an opportunity for us to glorify God for having the pope, who was responsible for showing to the people the dignity of man and the simplicity of Jesus and being a good example to everybody, among others,†Palma said.
“He (Pope John Paul II) is a great man and a holy man. His canonization is a confirmation of the impression that we have had of him,†he added. — /LPM (FREEMAN)
