2 killed, 2 hurt in separate shootings over the weekend

CEBU, Philippines - A suspected robber and a former tanod were killed in separate shooting incidents while two others were injured.

A certain Dingdong, of Barangay T. Padilla, Cebu City was shot dead by an unidentified gunman yesterday afternoon in sitio Sampaguita, Barangay Tejero. An 18-year-old vendor who happened to be in the area when the shooting incident happened past 2 pm was caught by a stray bullet.

Roel Magnanao, of Barangay Lahug, sustained a gunshot wound in the left face and was rushed to the Cebu City Medical center where he is now confined.

Homicide investigator Ruth Violango said nobody witnessed the shooting. The residents in the area said they only heard gunfire before the victim was found dead with at least 10 gunshot wounds. Homicide investigators found a caliber .38 revolver, eight bullets and P400 bills from the victim’s pocket.

Homicide investigators said they received information that the victim was allegedly  a notorious robber in the area.

In another incident, a former tanod was shot dead by a trader in Veterans Drive, Barangay Busay, Cebu City last Saturday evening. Rogelio Cadutdut, 55, died on the spot when Arnel Abella shot him for trying to pacify an argument between the suspect and the latter’s cousin-in-law.

Abella reportedly got irked when his cousin-in-law, Samuel Dungog, Jr., asked for an early Christmas gift. An argument ensued prompting Cadutdut  to pacify.  However, Abella shot him and Dungog.

The suspect fled towards a waiting motorcycle driven by an unidentified person and escaped towards Barangay Lahug. (FREEMAN)
