Cebu Popular Music Festival levels up; to have 3 champs
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Arts Foundation, Inc., the initiator of the Cebu Popular Music festival, has level-up its songwriting competition for the 34th year of its existence. The Cebu Pop Music Festival first went on stage in January 1981.
The 34th Cebu Pop Music Festival for the first time will declare not just one, not just two but three champions; each receiving a cash prize of P100,000, aside from the trophies during the grand finals night.
The songwriting innovation this year classifies the compositions into three musical genres: The Ballad and Pop Ballad; The Folk, Country and Novelty, and the Upbeat and Dance Music. Ask why the decision to classify the compositions into three genres, the CAFI chairman former congressman Eduardo Gullas said, “This is to give chance to composers whose specialization lies in any of the three genres. In addition, today’s music has evolved into other forms and their musical styles have become more interesting and exciting. Aside from the usual, Cebuano air, compositions whose musicality is out of the box will sit well with the musical psyche and taste of today’s upbeat generation.â€
During the Grand Finals Night on January 17, 2014 each of the musical genres will have 4 finalists. The non-winners will each receive P20,000 and plaques of appreciation. As in the past of Cebu Pop Music Festival, the Grand Finals Night will be hosted by Sam Costanilla and Apple Abarquez.
Deadline for the submission of official entries is on August 31, 2013 at 5 p.m. Official entry form may be submitted at the University of the Visayas Alumni Office, 2nd floor U.V. Gym, Sanciangko St., Cebu City. (FREEMAN)
