Fire hits rehabilitation center

Ria Mae Y. Booc - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Patients of a rehabilitation center ran for safety when a fire hit the ‘We Do Recover’ establishment at 3rd St., La Guardia, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City Friday evening.

The fire reportedly started in one of the rooms at the second floor of the rehabilitation center according to the guard, Eddie Algora.

Algora alleged that the smell of burning plastic caught his attention prompting him to check upstairs where he found smoke coming out from one of the rooms.

He grabbed a fire extinguisher and fought off the flames, but with the already empty and the fire engulfing other rooms, Algora immediately called the fire station.

Deputy Chief for Operation of the Cebu City Fire Station, SFO4 Jovito Abelgas, said they raised the fire to second alarm and considered the fire under control 10 minutes after arriving at the scene.

The initial investigation of Abelgas showed that an electrical problem could have caused the fire as the said establishment has had previous problems with their electrical circuit.

“Initial lang na kay amo pa mang imbestigaron gyud og balik ang hinungdan sa kayo,” he said.

Nobody was injured in the incident, damage was pegged at P200,000. BRP (FREEMAN)
