Province PCL bets to run unopposed
CEBU, Philippines - Unlike in the May 13 elections, political parties in Cebu Province are united for the election of the Philippine Councilors League Provincial Federation on Monday at the Capitol.
In her reelection bid, Provincial Board Member and Danao City Councilor Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca, has picked her slate from different political parties.
The slate will be unopposed after no other candidates filed their certificates of candidacy before the Department of Interior and Local Government provincial office as of its deadline last Wednesday.
Meca, of the Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud)-Liberal Party, has maintained her slate in 2010 while filling up vacant positions.
She picked Talisay City Councilor Eduardo “Digul†Gullas III of the Alayon-Nacionalista Party for vice president who is also an incumbent.
Alayon, NP and National Unity Party were allies of the United Nationalist Alliance and One Cebu Party in the last May 13 elections.
Meca picked Pinamungajan Councilor Jeffrey Anthony Yapha of LP for secretary-general.
Incumbent treasurer, Sogod councilor Gamaliel Lumapas of Bakud, is seeking reelection.
LP councilors Irving Gamallo of Samboan will run for auditor; Geronimo Almirante of Bogo City for public relations officer; and Julius Alegado of Consolacion for business manager.
For the board of directors are councilors Nenita Layese (LP) of Mandaue City, Samuel Moralde (NP) of Daanbantayan, Erwin Gica (LP) of Dumanjug, Napoleon Enrique Teves (LP) of Santander, Emmanuel Jo (One Cebu) of Balamban, Rajiv Enad (NP) of Minglanilla, Othello Chiong (NP) of Naga City, and Neal Vergara (Bakud) of Borbon.
Moralde, Jo, Teves and Chiong are incumbent board members of the PCL Cebu Provincial Federation.
Meca will convene on Monday all the component city and municipal councilors and elect themselves the league’s officials for 2013 to 2016. (FREEMAN)
