CEBU, Philippines - Restoring utilities in the Mambaling sitios recently hit by fire is the priority of the city government.

City administrator Atty. Jose Marie Poblete said on top of their to-do list is to have power and water  supplies back in sitios Huyong-huyong and Tinabangay.

Department of Social Welfare Services (DSWS) chief Dr. Ester Concha said they aim to distribute the disaster kits today, three days after the Sunday dawn fire.

“Kinahanglan na mahatag within three days otherwise mudako ang gasto sa city, (It has to be distributed within three days. Otherwise, the city would have to spend more.)” Concha told reporters.

After verification, the DSWS list of fire victims included 68 houses, 640 individuals and 150 families.

The city government is also preparing for the distribution of P10,000 financial assistance per family as well as housing materials to help them rebuild their homes.

Cebu city mayor  Michael Rama assured that no fire victims will be displaced especially since the area is part of a government project on Slum Improvement Resettlement (SIR).  (FREEMAN)
