CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office has recommended no bail against a 48-year-old laborer who allegedly raped and killed his girlfriend in Barangay Quiot Wednesday dawn.

Assistant city prosecutor Mario Rey Gidayawan yesterday found probable cause to elevate before the court the criminal case for rape with homicide against Benedicto Logreno.

Logreno, a native of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, opted not to avail of his right to a preliminary investigation when subjected to inquest investigation. He instead manifested before the investigating prosecutor that he is ready to face the charges in court.

Logreno, who was arrested Wednesday morning in Toledo City during a hot pursuit operation, admitted killing Jeysila Muñoz, 25, a native of Getafe Bohol, out of jealousy. Logreno even apologized for what he did.

He said it was not his intention to kill Muñoz. According to him, he was just drunk when he committed the crime. Logreno also admitted having sex with the victim before killing her.

Muñoz suffered 30 stab wounds in different parts of the body, based on the autopsy report of PNP medico legal officer Dr. Nestor Sator.

Muñoz succumbed to the stab wounds in the chest that hit her lungs, the autopsy report revealed.

“Ang nakapatay niya ang igo niya sa chest kay igo pud iyang lungs. (She died because of the stab wound in the chest which hit her lungs),” Sator said.

Sator however clarified that Muñoz was not raped as he found no indications of rape. Sator’s finding however is contrary to the accused’s admission of having sexual intercourse with the victim prior to the killing.

Sator said that there could be an attempt to rape the victim but it was for the Homicide personnel to determine in their investigation. (FREEMAN)
