Rama scores PDEA for absences

Rene U. Borromeo and Annie Fe Perez - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is warning the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)– 7 for their frequent absence during the Police Coordinating and Advisory Council (PCAC) meetings.

“They have to attend or else I will write a letter to the President,” Rama said.

PDEA has been defending that they have not been receiving any invitations about any PCAC meetings.

But Rama says that they do not have to wait for invitations since they are members of the PCAC, meeting schedules is already a protocol.

“If they really want to serve, they will come to the office of the mayor and look for whoever is in charge of PCAC,” Rama said.

There are executives and chairpersons who handle the affairs of PCAC in the City Hall.

In an earlier report, PCAC said that drugs are the number one reason why crimes are committed. It is also the number one link to killings. PCAC wants to contain drug lords, warlords and gambling lords.

It has been a year that PDEA has not sent a representative to any PCAC meeting. Even the PCAC itself has been doing measures to get PDEA to join their meetings but to no avail.

The PCAC is a body that discusses peace and order with representatives from the Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation, Citom, Bureau of Fire Protection and the Department of Interior and Local Government. — (FREEMAN)
