3 dead in road accidents

CEBU, Philippines - Three persons were killed while another is in critical condition in three separate vehicular accidents in the cities of Carcar and Danao as well as in the town of Dumanjug last Monday.

In Sitio Danao, Barangay Valencia, Carcar City, a woman was killed after she fell from the motorcycle-for-hire she was riding around 6:30 a.m.

Mitchelyn Barlentos got on board the motorcycle driven by Petronio Cabanasa in Barangay Bagakay and asked to be taken to Valencia.

The motorcycle was traveling on a rough road and Barlentos lost her grip on Cabanasa causing her to fall on the road. Barlentos suffered head injuries after hit a rock and was rushed to the Carcar Provincial Hospital. She was declared dead on arrival.

In another incident, a 33-year-old man was also killed after he rammed a 10-wheeler truck around 7:45 p.m. along the barangay road in Barangay Cambanay, Danao City.

Police could not tell if Roel Landero was under the influence of liquor when the incident happened.

Landero was driving his Yamaha L2 motorcycle without license plates and was traveling towards Barangay Sandayong when he rammed a Fuso truck with license plates GTZ 518 parked along the road. The truck was carrying steel bars at the time.

Ronilo Garcia, a resident of Barangay Sandayong Norte, was surprised when he heard a loud crash behind the truck and found that Landero had crashed into the rear portion.

Landero was taken to the Danao Provincial Hospital where he died after a few minutes.

Meanwhile, a 75-year-old man died after he was hit by a speeding motorcycle in Barangay Sima, Dumanjug town, past 6:30 p.m.

Lorenzo Noel suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to the Barili District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Ronie Tacoloy, 24, of Barangay Cogon, who was driving a Honda Wave motorcycle with license plates 572-OT, is also in critical condition after he was thrown from his motorcycle due to the strong impact.

PO3 Dionisio Tagupa, desk officer, said that motorcycle was coming from Barangay Liong heading towards Barangay Sima when Noel suddenly crossed the road and was hit.

Both were taken to the same hospital.  — (FREEMAN)
