Worker zapped to death in Naga
CEBU, Philippines - A worker of an export company in Barangay Pandan, Naga City, Cebu died of electric shock after an accident happened last Friday.
Eric Apolinar, 29, was cooking octopus when the safety mechanism of the electric cooking pot suddenly failed. Apolinar sustained burns all over the body and died while in transport to the hospital.
His co-worker Roland Dacomos also experienced the shock but was able to survive after he immediately let go of the pot.
The victim is working for Millenium Ocean Star Corporation, a producer and exporter of high quality, premium, safe frozen seafood and aquaculture products.
PO1 Silvano Bascones of the Naga City police station said that the cooking pot was attached to a gas tank with electric starter. During the incident, the blower mechanism of the pot failed prompting the victim to switch it off.
Apolinar and Dacomos tried to lift the pot but the former got electrocuted in the process. Dacomos was saved because he immediately let go of the pot.
Apolinar, a resident of Barangay Lutac, was immediately rushed to the South General Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival. (FREEMAN)
